One Coriolis Platform for Different Process Requirements

ROTAMASS Total Insight (TI) is Yokogawa's Coriolis mass flowmeter platform designed to provide accurate measurement of liquids and gases across a wide range of industrial applications.

Unlike conventional volumetric flowmeters, a Coriolis flowmeter directly measures mass flow rate. ROTAMASS TI can also measure density and temperature, allowing additional process values to be calculated from the same measurement system.

The product family is divided into several sensor series so the meter can be matched to the actual process rather than forcing one sensor design into every application.

What Can ROTAMASS Total Insight Measure?

The core measurement functions include:

  • Mass flow
  • Density
  • Process temperature
  • Volume flow at operating or reference conditions
  • Density at reference conditions
  • Concentration of mixable or unmixable fluids

With additional measurement input, ROTAMASS TI can also calculate:

  • Dynamic viscosity for Newtonian liquids
  • Energy or heating value for gas measurement

This makes the platform useful when the process requires more than simply knowing how much fluid is flowing.

Why Choose a Coriolis Mass Flowmeter?

A major advantage of Coriolis measurement is that mass flow is measured directly rather than calculated from volumetric flow and assumed density.

This is especially useful when fluid density changes with temperature, composition, pressure, or process conditions. For applications involving batching, dosing, blending, custody-related measurement, concentration monitoring, or changing fluid composition, direct mass measurement can simplify the measurement system.

ROTAMASS TI can simultaneously provide mass flow, density, and temperature, giving the control system more process information from one instrument.

Six Sensor Families for Different Applications

ROTAMASS Total Insight is available in several sensor families, each designed around different process requirements.

ROTAMASS Nano — Low-Flow Measurement

The Nano series is designed for very low flow rates and uses a dual-bent-tube Coriolis design.

It is particularly suited to applications such as:

  • Batching
  • Dosing
  • Blending
  • Chemical injection
  • Metering pump control
  • Precision coating
  • High-pressure gas measurement
  • Laboratory and R&D applications

The dual-tube design helps maintain stable and repeatable measurement for small-flow applications.

ROTAMASS Prime — General Industrial Applications

ROTAMASS Prime is the versatile option for standard industrial flow measurement.

Its design focuses on wide turndown and low pressure loss, making it suitable when the process operates across a relatively broad flow range or when minimizing pressure drop is important.

Typical applications include general liquid and gas flow measurement, batching, blending, and process control.

ROTAMASS Hygienic — Food, Beverage and Pharmaceutical

The Hygienic series is designed for hygienic process applications, including food and beverage, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical utility systems.

It is the appropriate family when sanitary construction, cleanability, and hygienic process requirements are more important than simply selecting a general-purpose Coriolis meter.

ROTAMASS Supreme — Demanding Process Conditions

ROTAMASS Supreme is designed for demanding applications where higher performance and wider process capability are required.

The series supports process temperatures down to -196 °C and process pressure up to 250 bar in applicable configurations, making it suitable for demanding process environments and specialized applications.

ROTAMASS Intense — High-Pressure Applications

ROTAMASS Intense is specifically positioned for high-pressure applications.

Depending on configuration, process pressure can reach up to 260 bar or 360 bar, making this series suitable for processes where standard Coriolis meters may not provide sufficient pressure capability.

ROTAMASS Giga — High Flow and Flexible Installation

ROTAMASS Giga is designed for high-flow applications and larger line sizes.

The series covers line sizes up to DN250 and is intended for installations where high flow capacity and flexible sensor configuration are important.

Accuracy Across the ROTAMASS TI Family

The exact accuracy depends on the selected sensor family and process conditions.

Yokogawa specifies mass flow accuracy for liquids of up to ±0.1%, while gas mass flow accuracy can reach ±0.35% on applicable models. Liquid density accuracy is typically up to ±0.5 g/L, with the exact specification varying by sensor family.

This is why selecting the correct ROTAMASS series is important: the best model depends not only on pipe size, but also on flow rate, pressure, temperature, fluid characteristics, and required accuracy.

Total Insight Concept

The "Total Insight" concept extends beyond the basic flow measurement function.

ROTAMASS TI is supported by a range of engineering and lifecycle resources, including configuration tools, software packages, general specifications, instruction manuals, certificates, and communication options such as HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, PROFIBUS, and PROFINET on applicable configurations.

This allows the meter to remain part of the process measurement system throughout installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and future process changes.
