The Fluke SMFT-1000 Multifunction PV Tester and Performance Analyzer is designed for professionals responsible for the installation, commissioning, inspection, and maintenance of photovoltaic systems. Rather than using separate instruments for electrical safety checks, PV performance measurements, and I-V curve analysis, the SMFT-1000 brings these functions together in one dedicated solar testing platform. It is designed for PV systems operating at up to 1000 V DC and conforms to the testing requirements of IEC 62446-1.

For IEC 62446-1 Category 1 testing, the SMFT-1000 provides a sequence of key PV electrical safety measurements, including protective conductor resistance, open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current, insulation resistance, and polarity. This allows technicians to verify essential installation conditions during commissioning and periodic inspection. For systems with module efficiency above approximately 19%, the tester can measure operational current instead of short-circuit current when configured for the applicable Category 1 requirements.

For Category 2 performance testing, the SMFT-1000 adds I-V curve tracing, together with irradiance, temperature, tilt, and cardinal direction measurements. The I-V curve can be viewed directly on the instrument while testing, allowing technicians to compare measured results with manufacturer module data without needing a laptop or tablet at the PV site.

The tester measures PV open-circuit voltage from 5 V to 1000 V and PV short-circuit current from 0.2 A to 20 A, with the appropriate accessories used for the measurement application. This makes the SMFT-1000 suitable for testing individual PV modules as well as connected PV strings.

The SMFT-1000 also supports efficient project documentation through Fluke TruTest™ Solar Software. Test results, visual inspection observations, and I-V curve data can be transferred to the software for organization, comparison, analysis, and report generation. Historical site data can also be compared to identify changes in PV system performance over time.
