Point Detection Without Contact

The Soliwave FQR56 uses a microwave barrier to detect whether bulk material is present in a defined measuring path. Unlike a continuous radar level transmitter, it is intended for point detection, flow monitoring and material movement detection.

This makes it useful when the process simply needs a reliable indication of whether material has reached a particular point or is passing through a defined area.

Designed for Bulk Solids

FQR56 is designed for a wide range of bulk materials, including wood chips, wood dust, flour, plaster, cement, ash, paper and cardboard shreds, gravel, sand and dried powders.

The specified minimum medium density is more than 10 g/L, giving the system a broad application range for lightweight and heavier bulk solids.

Through-Wall Detection

One of the practical advantages of the FQR56 is that it can be installed outside a non-metallic container and detect material through the container wall.

This allows completely non-contact installation in suitable applications, with no wetted parts and no sensor extending into the material.

More Than Level Detection

The FQR56 can be used for more than simple point level switching. Endress+Hauser also specifies applications such as flow monitoring, detecting, counting and positioning of objects, monitoring material transfer points, and detecting deposits or contamination.

This makes the microwave barrier principle particularly useful around conveyors, chutes, shafts and material transfer points.

A Long Detection Path

The maximum measuring range is 100 m, allowing the transmitter and receiver to be installed with considerable separation where the application requires it.

The FQR56 works together with the FDR56 transceiver/receiver, forming the microwave barrier across the monitored area.

Ready for High-Temperature Processes

For installations exposed to higher process temperatures, an optional high-temperature adapter allows operation up to +450°C.

For installations where process pressure is also a concern, a high-pressure adapter extends the specified pressure capability to 21 bar absolute. The exact limits depend on the installation arrangement.

Flexible Installation

The FQR56 supports both non-contact installation through a transmission window and front-flush installation.

Process connections include 1-1/2" R, 1-1/2" G and 1-1/2" NPT, with additional installation accessories such as sight glasses, brackets and adapters available depending on the application.

Typical Applications

Bulk Solid Point Level Detection

Detect whether powders, granules or other bulk materials have reached a defined point in a silo, chute or vessel.

Material Flow Monitoring

Monitor whether bulk material is moving through a chute, shaft or transfer point.

Conveyors and Transfer Points

Detect material passing through a defined location on a conveyor or transfer system.

Blockage and Material Build-Up Detection

Monitor deposits or contamination that could interfere with material flow.

Non-Metallic Tanks and Vessels

Install the microwave barrier outside suitable non-metallic containers without placing the sensor directly into the material.

Lightweight Bulk Materials

Suitable for materials such as wood dust, flour and other low-density bulk solids when the medium density is above the specified limit.

High-Temperature Processes

With the appropriate high-temperature adapter, the system can be used in applications where the installation temperature reaches up to 450°C.

FAQ

What is the Endress+Hauser Soliwave FQR56?

The FQR56 is a microwave barrier transmitter designed for non-contact point level detection and flow monitoring of bulk solids.

Is the FQR56 a continuous level transmitter?

No. The FQR56 is primarily a point detection and flow monitoring device. It determines whether material is present within the microwave barrier rather than continuously measuring the material level.

What receiver works with the FQR56?

The FQR56 works with the Soliwave FDR56 receiver/transceiver to form the complete microwave barrier system.

Can the FQR56 be installed outside the vessel?

Yes. For suitable non-metallic container materials, the microwave barrier can be installed externally and detect material through the container wall.

What materials can it detect?

Typical materials include wood chips, wood dust, flour, plaster, cement, ash, paper and cardboard shred, gravel, sand and dried powders. The specified minimum medium density is more than 10 g/L.

What is the maximum detection range?

The maximum specified measuring range is 100 m.

Can it detect material flow?

Yes. Flow monitoring is one of the specified applications, along with detecting, counting and positioning of objects.

What is the maximum process temperature?

For non-contact installation, the process temperature is not limited by the instrument's contact with the process. For installation within the process, the standard range is -40 to +70°C, and a high-temperature adapter extends this to +450°C.

What is the maximum process pressure?

For installations within the process, the standard specified pressure range is 0.5 to 6.8 bar abs. A high-pressure adapter extends the capability to 21 bar abs. For non-contact installation, the process itself does not impose a pressure limit on the device.

Does the FQR56 have wetted parts?

With non-contact installation, there are no wetted parts. For installation within the process, the listed materials include 316Ti or aluminum with PTFE or ceramic, depending on configuration.

What power supply does the FQR56 use?

The FQR56 supports 85–253 VAC and 20–30 VDC / 20–60 VAC power supplies.
