Endress+Hauser Proline t-mass I 500 Thermal Mass Flowmeter

The Endress+Hauser Proline t-mass I 500 is an insertion thermal mass flowmeter designed for accurate and reliable measurement of utility gases, process gases and gas mixtures. Its insertion design makes it particularly suitable for large-diameter pipes and rectangular ducts, with nominal sizes from DN80 to DN1500 (3 to 60 inches). 

The t-mass I 500 uses the thermal mass flow measurement principle to provide direct gas mass flow measurement. Its patented sensor design compensates in real time for changes in temperature, pressure, flow direction and gas type, helping maintain stable measurement performance when process conditions change. 

Direct Gas Mass Flow Measurement

Thermal mass measurement allows the t-mass I 500 to measure gas mass flow directly, making it well suited to utility gas and process gas applications where accurate gas consumption and process flow information are required.

Depending on the configuration, measured variables include mass flow, standard volume flow, volume flow, gas velocity, temperature, heat flow, energy flow and density. 

This makes the instrument useful not only for basic gas flow monitoring but also for energy management, utility monitoring and process optimization.

Long-Term Measurement Stability

A major feature of the t-mass I 500 is its patented drift-free sensor design, developed to provide long-term stability in thermal insertion mass flow measurement.

The sensor can compensate for changes in process conditions including gas temperature, pressure, flow direction and gas type. The sensor is also available with SIL 2 capability, providing an additional option for applications where functional safety is important. 

Large Pipe and Duct Measurement

The insertion configuration allows the t-mass I 500 to measure gas flow in large pipelines and ducts without requiring a full-bore inline flowmeter.

It supports nominal diameters from DN80 to DN1500 (3 to 60 inches) and can be installed in both circular piping and rectangular ducts. This makes it suitable for large utility systems, process gas networks and industrial gas distribution. 

Bidirectional Gas Flow Measurement

The t-mass I 500 supports bidirectional flow measurement and reverse-flow detection.

This is useful in gas distribution and utility networks where the direction of flow may change depending on operating conditions. Reverse-flow detection can also help identify unexpected process conditions and improve system monitoring. 

Flexible Gas Configuration

The flowmeter can be configured for 21 standard gases or freely definable gas mixtures, providing flexibility for different industrial gas measurement requirements. 

This makes the t-mass I 500 suitable for applications involving compressed air, natural gas and other utility or process gases, provided the selected configuration matches the process medium.

Remote Transmitter for Flexible Installation

Unlike the t-mass I 300 version, the t-mass I 500 features a remote transmitter design. The transmitter can be installed separately from the sensor, providing greater flexibility when the measurement point is difficult to access or when operating conditions make local transmitter installation inconvenient.

The remote transmitter supports up to four I/Os, while the backlit display provides touch control and WLAN access for convenient operation and commissioning. 

Advanced Diagnostics and Heartbeat Technology

The Proline t-mass I 500 incorporates Endress+Hauser Heartbeat Technology, providing integrated verification and diagnostic functions.

Heartbeat Technology helps users verify measurement performance and monitor device condition without removing the flowmeter from the process. This can support predictive maintenance and help reduce unnecessary service work. 

Wide Measuring Range

The t-mass I 500 provides a gas measuring range of 20 to 733,501 kg/h. The maximum specified measurement error is 1.0% of reading from 10–100% of full scale and 0.1% of full scale from 1–10% of full scale. 

The instrument can operate with medium temperatures from -40 °C to +180 °C and process pressures from -0.5 to 20 bar(g), depending on the configuration. 
