Endress+Hauser Proline Prowirl R 200 Vortex Flowmeter
The Endress+Hauser Proline Prowirl R 200 is a specialized vortex flowmeter designed for very low flow rates and reduced-flow applications. Its key feature is an integrated reduction of the measuring line by one or two nominal pipe sizes, allowing the flowmeter to maintain high measurement accuracy even when the available process flow is too low for a conventional vortex meter of the same pipe size.
Prowirl R 200 is suitable for measuring liquids, gases and steam and can provide integrated temperature and pressure measurement for compensated mass flow measurement. This makes it particularly useful for energy management, utility monitoring and process applications where accurate measurement at low flow rates is important.
Optimized for Very Low Flow Measurement
The main advantage of Prowirl R 200 is its ability to measure very low or reduced flow rates without requiring modifications to the existing process pipeline.
The sensor incorporates an integrated diameter reduction of one or two line sizes, concentrating the process flow through a smaller measuring section. This increases flow velocity through the meter and allows reliable vortex measurement under low-flow conditions. The mating pipe can be up to DN250 (10").
This design can eliminate the need for additional pipework modifications or a separate reducer, helping reduce installation time, engineering work and overall project cost.
High Accuracy Despite Pipe Reduction
Prowirl R 200 is designed to maintain high measurement performance even with its reduced measuring line.
The maximum measurement error is:
Liquid volume flow: ±0.75%
Steam and gas volume flow: ±1.00%
Liquid mass flow: ±0.85%
Saturated steam mass flow: up to ±1.5% with temperature and pressure compensation
Superheated steam and gas mass flow: up to ±1.5% with temperature and pressure compensation
The meter maintains its specified accuracy down to a Reynolds number of 10,000, supporting reliable measurement across a broad operating range.
Integrated Temperature and Pressure Measurement
For steam and gas applications, Prowirl R 200 can integrate temperature and pressure measurement with vortex flow measurement.
This enables compensated mass flow calculation and supports more accurate monitoring of energy and material consumption when process pressure and temperature fluctuate.
For example, in steam systems, the instrument can provide compensated steam mass flow without requiring a separate pressure transmitter and temperature sensor for the same measurement point, depending on the selected configuration.
Measurement of Liquids, Gas and Steam
The Prowirl R 200 can be used for a broad range of process media:
Steam
Natural gas
Process gases
Water
Industrial liquids
Other suitable process fluids
Its measuring range extends up to approximately 540 m³/h for liquids and 7,260 m³/h for steam and gases, depending on the medium and operating conditions.
Robust Drift-Free Capacitive Sensor
The Prowirl R 200 uses a robust drift-free capacitive sensor designed for long-term measurement stability.
The sensor has no mechanical moving components in the measurement principle, helping reduce wear and maintenance requirements while supporting stable operation in industrial process environments.
Wide Temperature and Pressure Range
The standard medium temperature range is -40 to +260 °C, while optional high/low-temperature versions extend the operating range to -200 to +400 °C, with up to +450 °C available on request.
The maximum process pressure is PN 40, Class 300 or 20K, depending on the selected process connection.
Energy Management and Utility Measurement
Prowirl R 200 is particularly suitable for energy management applications where steam and gas consumption must be accurately monitored.
Integrated temperature and pressure measurement can provide the process data required for compensated mass flow calculation, helping plants monitor energy consumption and identify changes in process demand.
Typical applications include:
Steam distribution
Boiler systems
Process steam measurement
Compressed gas systems
Natural gas measurement
Utility monitoring
Energy consumption monitoring
Process gas measurement
Low-flow process measurement
Heartbeat Technology and Diagnostics
Prowirl R 200 incorporates Endress+Hauser Heartbeat Technology, providing integrated verification and diagnostic functions.
Heartbeat Technology allows users to verify the measuring device without removing it from the process, supporting preventive maintenance, measurement reliability and improved plant availability.
Flexible Digital Communication
The Proline transmitter provides a range of output and communication options, including Ethernet-based communication depending on the selected configuration.
A separate connection compartment simplifies wiring, while the transmitter design allows device operation without opening the housing.
