Endress+Hauser FLOWSIC500 Ultrasonic Gas Flowmeter

The Endress+Hauser FLOWSIC500 is a compact ultrasonic gas flowmeter designed for accurate and reliable custody transfer measurement of natural gas in gas distribution systems. It uses the ultrasonic transit-time difference measurement principle to determine gas flow without mechanical moving parts, providing a reliable solution for applications where measurement accuracy and long-term operational stability are essential.

FLOWSIC500 is specifically designed for natural gas distribution and custody transfer applications. It measures actual volume, actual volumetric flow and gas velocity, while the integrated volume correction function can additionally provide standard-condition volume and standard-condition flow. This makes the instrument suitable for gas metering stations and other natural gas measurement points where accurate volume calculation is required.

Accurate Natural Gas Custody Transfer Measurement

The FLOWSIC500 is designed to provide dependable measurement performance for commercial natural gas applications. Its accuracy is specified according to the operating flow range, with accuracy class 1 and maximum permissible error limits of ±1% from Qmin to 0.1 Qmax and ±0.5% from 0.1 Qmax to Qmax. After high-pressure flow calibration, accuracy can reach ±0.2% at test pressure. Repeatability is specified at ≤0.1%.

This measurement performance makes FLOWSIC500 suitable for applications where reliable gas volume measurement is important for custody transfer, billing, allocation and natural gas distribution.

Ultrasonic Measurement Without Moving Parts

Unlike traditional mechanical gas meters, FLOWSIC500 uses ultrasonic transit-time difference measurement. The absence of moving mechanical components helps reduce mechanical wear and supports long-term measurement reliability.

The ultrasonic measurement principle also allows the instrument to monitor gas velocity and flow conditions while maintaining a compact design suitable for integration into existing gas measurement stations.

Intelligent Diagnostics for Reliable Operation

FLOWSIC500 incorporates an intelligent diagnostics system for monitoring the condition of the flowmeter and its measurement performance. Diagnostic functions help operators identify potential measurement problems and support efficient maintenance.

The flowmeter can be integrated into existing measurement stations and is designed for reliable operation in gas distribution applications.

Flexible Power and Operation

The FLOWSIC500 can operate in a self-sufficient energy configuration or in failsafe network operation with battery backup. This provides additional flexibility for gas metering installations where reliable measurement availability is required.

Optional Volume Correction

With the integrated volume correction function, FLOWSIC500 can provide measurements at standard conditions in addition to actual-condition volume and volumetric flow. This is particularly useful for natural gas applications where gas volume needs to be converted to defined reference conditions for commercial measurement and reporting.

Typical Applications

The Endress+Hauser FLOWSIC500 can be used for:

  • Natural gas custody transfer

  • Natural gas distribution

  • Gas metering stations

  • Natural gas billing and allocation

  • Gas transmission and distribution networks

  • Commercial gas measurement
