Endress+Hauser FLOWSIC100 Flare-XT Ultrasonic Flare Gas Flowmeter

The Endress+Hauser FLOWSIC100 Flare-XT is an advanced ultrasonic flare gas flowmeter designed for reliable gas flow measurement on flare stacks in petroleum refineries, chemical and petrochemical plants, natural gas processing facilities and LNG applications. It uses the ultrasonic transit-time difference principle to provide continuous measurement of flare gas under demanding process conditions.

Unlike conventional flow measurement methods that may require additional gas analysis equipment for mass flow calculation, FLOWSIC100 Flare-XT can provide direct mass flow calculation while measuring multiple gas parameters, including volumetric flow, mass flow, gas velocity, molecular weight and sound velocity. This makes it suitable for applications where flare gas composition and operating conditions can change significantly.

Reliable Flare Gas Measurement

Flare systems operate under variable and often challenging conditions, including rapidly changing gas flow rates, high gas velocities and changing gas compositions. The FLOWSIC100 Flare-XT is designed to maintain reliable measurement performance under these conditions.

Its measuring range extends from 0.03 to 120 m/s (0.1 to 394 ft/s), allowing the instrument to cover both low-flow and high-velocity flare gas applications. Depending on the configured measurement task, it can provide actual and standard-condition volumetric flow as well as mass flow information.

Multiple Gas Measurement Parameters

FLOWSIC100 Flare-XT provides more than basic flow measurement. The system can determine:

  • Mass flow rate

  • Standard-condition volumetric flow

  • Actual-condition volumetric flow

  • Gas volume and mass

  • Gas velocity

  • Molecular weight

  • Sound velocity

These measurement capabilities help operators monitor flare systems, identify abnormal gas losses and improve process control and optimization.

Flare Gas Monitoring and Process Optimization

The FLOWSIC100 Flare-XT can be used for flare gas measurement, gas loss monitoring, steam flow measurement and steam injection monitoring. By providing continuous flow information, it helps plants monitor flare operation and optimize the combustion process.

The instrument is also designed with self-monitoring, self-testing and predictive maintenance functions. Its FLOWgate™ software supports commissioning, operation and diagnostics, helping users maintain measurement performance and identify potential issues more efficiently.

Typical Applications

FLOWSIC100 Flare-XT is suitable for a wide range of industrial gas measurement applications, including:

  • Flare gas measurement

  • Flare stack gas monitoring

  • Natural gas production and processing

  • Associated petroleum gas (APG) measurement

  • Oil and gas refineries

  • Chemical and petrochemical plants

  • LNG boil-off gas measurement

  • Steam injection monitoring

  • Gas loss monitoring

  • Flare process optimization

The system is particularly useful where reliable measurement is required despite high gas velocities, fluctuating flow rates and changing gas compositions.
