Endress+Hauser Deltabar PMD50 Differential Pressure Transmitter

The Endress+Hauser Deltabar PMD50 is a differential pressure transmitter with a metal membrane designed for reliable measurement of differential pressure, level and flow in liquids and gases. It is optimized for standard industrial applications and combines robust measurement technology with intuitive commissioning functions.

The Deltabar PMD50 is suitable for applications where reliable differential pressure measurement is required for process monitoring, tank level measurement or flow measurement. Its 4–20 mA HART communication provides straightforward integration with process control and instrumentation systems.

Differential Pressure Measurement

The PMD50 uses a metal measuring membrane to measure the difference between two process pressures. The measuring cell range extends from:

100 mbar to 40 bar

with a maximum pressure measuring range of approximately 40 bar (600 psi).

The smallest calibratable span is 0.3 mbar, while the maximum turndown ratio is 100:1, providing flexibility when configuring the transmitter for different measurement ranges.

High Measurement Accuracy

The Deltabar PMD50 offers:

  • Standard accuracy: up to ±0.065%

  • Platinum accuracy: up to ±0.055%

This makes the transmitter suitable for standard differential pressure applications where stable and reliable measurement is required.

The long-term stability is specified at:

  • 0.1% of URL/year

  • 0.2% of URL/5 years

  • 0.25% of URL/10 years

Differential Pressure Level Measurement

The PMD50 can be used for hydrostatic level measurement in closed tanks and process vessels.

By measuring the pressure difference between the upper and lower sides of a vessel, the transmitter can determine liquid level. This makes it suitable for applications involving:

  • Storage tanks

  • Process vessels

  • Closed tanks

  • Liquid level monitoring

  • Pressurized vessels

The differential pressure measuring principle also allows the transmitter to compensate for pressure acting on the vessel surface when appropriately configured.

Differential Pressure Flow Measurement

The Deltabar PMD50 can also be used for flow measurement based on differential pressure.

When connected to a suitable primary flow element such as an orifice plate, venturi tube or other differential-pressure flow element, the transmitter measures the pressure difference generated by the flowing medium.

This allows the PMD50 to be integrated into conventional DP flow measurement systems for liquids and gases.

Measurement of Liquids and Gases

The transmitter is designed for differential pressure measurement in both liquid and gas applications.

Typical media applications include:

  • Process liquids

  • Water

  • Steam-related applications

  • Natural and process gases

  • Compressed gases

  • Industrial process fluids

Its broad application range makes the PMD50 suitable for general process instrumentation and plant measurement systems.

Robust Metal Membrane

The process membrane is available in:

  • 316L stainless steel

  • Alloy C

  • Gold

The housing can be supplied in aluminum or 316L stainless steel, depending on configuration.

Different membrane materials allow the transmitter to be configured according to process media and application requirements.

Process Temperature Capability

The standard process temperature range is:

-40 to +110 °C (-40 to +230 °F).

When equipped with an appropriate diaphragm seal, process temperatures can reach up to:

400 °C (752 °F).

This makes the PMD50 adaptable to applications involving elevated process temperatures.

Overpressure Resistance

The Deltabar PMD50 has a maximum overpressure limit of:

375 bar (5625 psi).

Its vacuum resistance is specified at 25 mbar, supporting reliable operation across demanding pressure conditions.

4–20 mA HART Communication

The Deltabar PMD50 uses:

4–20 mA HART

for process signal transmission and device communication.

This allows the transmitter to be integrated into conventional process automation architectures and provides access to device configuration and diagnostic information through HART communication.

Easy Commissioning

One of the key advantages of the PMD50 is its intuitive commissioning concept.

A built-in software wizard guides users through important commissioning steps, helping reduce setup time and simplify device configuration.

The transmitter also provides Zero/Span buttons for convenient adjustment during commissioning and maintenance.

Flexible Write Protection

The Deltabar PMD50 supports flexible protection against unauthorized parameter changes using hardware and/or software-based write protection.

This can help prevent accidental changes to critical measurement parameters during operation.

Pre-Assembled Manifold Options

For applications requiring pressure manifolds, Endress+Hauser offers pre-assembled manifolds that are pressure- and leakage-tested before delivery.

This can simplify installation and reduce the amount of field assembly required.

Safety and Hazardous Area Approvals

Depending on configuration, the Deltabar PMD50 is available with several approvals, including:

  • ATEX

  • FM

  • IECEx

  • JPN Ex

  • INMETRO

  • NEPSI

The device is also developed in accordance with IEC 61508 and can be supplied with SIL safety approval.

For specific applications, design approvals include EN10204-3.1, NACE MR0103 and NACE MR0175.
